The last few years, schools have transitioned to a more rigorous course of study for students earning a Certificate of Completion. During this session, parents will learn about the course requirements, the content and standards that will be taught and the outcomes they should expect. We will answer the following key questions:
- Who should be earning a Certificate of Completion/Alternate Diploma?
- What does it mean for your child to earn a Certificate of Completion/Alternate Diploma?
- What are the requirements for the Certificate of Completion/Alternate Diploma?
About the speaker:
Amy Howie is a Special Education Subject Matter Expert (SME) at Public Consulting Group and Director of Project SUCCESS in Indiana. Amy is dedicated to being an enthusiastic and dynamic leader, fostering a lifelong love of learning. Prior to coming to PCG, Amy was a special education teacher and administrator for 18 years, including experience at elementary and secondary levels and covering a range of disability areas and instructional settings including elementary, secondary and vocational education. For the past six years, Amy has been the director of Project SUCCESS, a resource center funded by the IDOE that focuses on professional learning for teachers to support higher academic and post school outcomes for students with significant disabilities. Amy has a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision K-12 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education

Tracey Malesa-Wheaton sits down with Kylee Bassett-Hope from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Services to discuss their new initiative to try and get as many students as possible with special needs identified for VR services prior to transition age. Discussed is how to make a referral, who is appropriate for a referral and what can be expected during the process of determining eligibility. Also discussed are the types of options available to those students with respect to further education, training, job seeking and job retention services.
